About the Maker – Renzo Rapacioli
Renzo Rapacioli was born in 1943 in Piacenza, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1960 with his eight brothers and sisters, beginning a new life built on hard work and dedication. After serving in the US Army, he worked in the restaurant industry, building a distinguished career in some of New York City’s finest establishments.

Renzo began working at the renowned Laurent Restaurant, where he was soon promoted to Sommelier in 1967. With a deep passion for wine, he studied tirelessly and traveled the world attending seminars, tastings, and competitions. His expertise led him to create award-winning wine lists, earning the prestigious Wine Spectator Award not once, but twice—first for Laurent Restaurant and later for Sistina Ristorante. Throughout his career, he also lent his talents to iconic institutions including , the 21 Club, Barolo Ristorante, and Barbetta Ristorante, which were awarded the best award of excellence”

In 2014, an accident on the job caused permanent injury to his right hand and arm, yet Renzo persevered and continued to work with grace and determination until retiring at the age of 80.
Outside of his restaurant career, Renzo has always loved woodworking. Over the years, he built cabinetry, collected unique woods, and even saved corks from rare bottles of wine as keepsakes of his journey. After retiring, he discovered a new passion: birdwatching. Inspired by the visitors to his feeders, Renzo built his first birdhouse for his own yard. Since then, crafting birdhouses has become a joyful pastime—combining his love of nature, craftsmanship, and creativity.

Each birdhouse he creates is more than just a home for birds—it is the work of a man whose life has been defined by passion, resilience, and WINE!
